As an artist Stretch want more than anything to engage the viewers of his wind kinetic sculptures in an experience they may not have had before. For him art was all about it's audience and the enjoyment they received from observing it. Inspired by nature, his artwork captures and expresses the element he loved most - the Wind. Each sculpture is his interpretation of something he observed while spending time amongst the trees or on the beach. Stretch began his sculpture building journey in the late 1990s' using recycled fans and other components and installing them at far flung festivals around Far North Queensland. From these humble beginnings he continued to evolve and refine his artwork to the sophisticated and elegant form it is today. His work is now exhibited at prestigious sculpture festivals such as Swell, Currumbin, Harbour Sculpture, Sydney and has been shown in group and solo exhibitions from the Bowral to Brisbane. Stretch's love of his craft and passion to create was so strong that even three weeks before his passing from lung cancer he was building another series of five works, two of which were to be placed on permanent exhibit at the entrance to the Northern Rivers Community Gallery, Ballina. His wish is that the sculptures he has bequeathed to EFF be a source of joy and peace to all future festival goers and may they party, dance, live life large and love deeply.
